Brixton Home

Our clients tasked us with creating a family bathroom with plenty of storage and a functional but relaxing and comfortable master bedroom.  We were faced with the challenge of the loft door (which was positioned in the bathroom wall) and a modest sized floor plan.  We designed a “secret door style” recessed shelving unit which sits flush with the wall and opens into the loft.  We also designed a generous floating vanity with large, recessed mirrored cabinet to maximise storage space and added lighting to give a sense of luxury for the adults.  The original, cast iron bath was retained and refurbished and we added a washable linen shower curtain in a striped pattern to add warmth.  We replaced the previous dark walls and beige and black tiles with a soft pink colour scheme and reflective zellige wall tiles.

In the master bedroom, we reused the majority of our client’s existing furniture, working the design around key pieces such as the upholstered king size bed and reupholstering vintage armchairs.  We complimented the existing furniture with some new investment pieces and vintage purchases and reused and repurposed our client’s existing artwork.  The walls were taken from a cold lilac to a warm plaster hue which we took from the skirting boards, up to the cornice to make the most of the lofty ceilings.  Window frames were painted in a muted green for interest we dressed them thick sand coloured linen curtains hung from ceiling to floor.
